If you've ever stared at an auto insurance quote and wondered what half the line items actually mean, you're not alone. In Idaho, the law sets a floor — but the floor isn't where most drivers should stop.
What Idaho law requires
Idaho requires every driver to carry liability insurance with minimum limits of 25/50/15: - $25,000 bodily injury per person - $50,000 bodily injury per accident - $15,000 property damage
That's it. The state doesn't require uninsured motorist coverage, collision, or comprehensive — those are choices you make based on your vehicle, your driving, and your risk tolerance.
Why minimums often aren't enough
A single serious accident can blow through $25,000 in medical bills in an afternoon. If you're at fault and the injured party's costs exceed your limits, the difference comes out of your pocket — and potentially your assets. We typically recommend 100/300/100 as a baseline, and many of our clients carry higher.
Coverage worth adding
- Uninsured / underinsured motorist (UM/UIM): Roughly 13% of U.S. drivers are uninsured. UM/UIM protects you when the other driver can't.
- Medical payments: Covers medical costs for you and your passengers regardless of fault — often just a few dollars a month.
- Collision and comprehensive: If your car is worth more than 10× your annual premium for these coverages, keep them.
- Rental reimbursement and roadside: Inexpensive add-ons that prevent post-claim headaches.
How we shop your policy
Because Borgman Agency is independent, we run your profile across top carriers — Progressive, Travelers, Liberty Mutual, Auto-Owners, and more — and present the best combinations. We re-shop at every renewal. No quotas, no pressure, no "preferred" carrier we have to push.
If your current policy is more than a year old, it's almost certainly worth a second look.
